Taten's major offering is a Financial Datahub Framework. In software development, a framework is a series of classes and interfaces that use common components and remove a lot of the work needed to provided standardised code. It also enables certain features to be easily automated.
A framework approach to software development also ensures a certain amount of re-usability with our code - which means we don't have to re-write chunks of code everytime we have a new customer wanting on online application system. The Taten Framework incorporates a series of generic tables, generic schemas and abstract objects and interfaces which are common throughout all Taten's software development. These include business objects and their basic constructs and how they can be read, written and updated into the database We have also written a series of services which enable us to take data to and from third party applications over a known series of interfaces. Development technologyThe Taten Financial Datahub is developed using core Microsoft technology. With a track record stretching back nearly 20 years, the FDH consists of a combination of some legacy code with classic ASP Com + objects as well as Dot Net 1.1 and Dot Net 3.5 classes. Most of our newer software components use ASP Dot Net 2 web pages and components. However, future plans include removing all the legacy code and going forward with full Dot Net framework 3.5. According to Taten CEO Jeff Lim, the Dot Net 3.5 technology provides an easier mechanism to deliver "nicer" code. "There are a lot of new features which are contained inside this Dot Net framework - code which we don’t have to write ourselves plus there are a lot of components and techniques which we can use that will gives us a good competitive edge in the marketplace," says Craig.
